Ready for some fun and games?

Story

Golden grass danced in the rolling winds. The hum of ambient summer warmed the morning air, but an aqualox still nestled closer towards a fire. His silhouette was grey under the cerulean sky, while a kettle glimmered warm over the crackling embers.

The aqualox’s ears perked backward to approaching footfalls, a cracking twig sounding the other’s arrival.

“Heya, Dojo,” the hiker called. “Firecraker’s been looking everywhere for you.”

“Well, it seems you have found me.”

Dojo shifted to make space for the newcomer without looking up. He didn’t need to see the Safiran to already imagine the way their whiskers and ears wavered in the morning air, and how the Soul Gem on their chest seemed matte of life. The aqualox plopped down next to Dojo, stretching out to drink in the warmth.

“Firecracker was at the market yesterday.”

Dojo raised a brow. “You didn’t spend all of your paycheck again, did you?”

“Nope! Firecracker, have you know, was very responsible this time around.”

Dojo considered this for a moment. “You were robbed.”

“Almost robbed! Then Firecracker hit them with the ol’ one-two,” the aqualox pretended to box without sitting up, “and they were gone. Tails tucked between legs.”

“I’d scatter, too,” Dojo smiled, “if my opponent erupted into flame.”

Firecracker sat up to blow an explosion sound, flopping into the grass as his breath ran out. Dojo chuckled, adjusting the kettle over the flame.

“So what has actually brought you here?”

“Outside of meeting Firecracker’s favourite ‘lox?”

Firecracker laughed, but Dojo waited silently, dampening the glee. Firecracker’s face steeled, and he sat up to look into the dancing campfire.

“It’s not about terradins, if that’s what you’re hoping,” Firecracker watched Dojo’s attention sink. “It’s Firecracker’s siblings. Firecracker saw a figment in the market.”

“That’s not entirely amiss,” Dojo threw a leaf into the kettle. “They show up anywhere ash can.”

“No. Firecracker saw lots of Figments. A whole netfull. Two!”

“What?”

“Water folk brought them in, very confused.”

“Aren’t the King-Pins waiting for the terradins to reawaken?”

“Only one King-Pin wants to wait, but,” the aqualox held his paw above the flame, “nets of figments? She’s been outvoted.”

“Have you seen another..?”

“Nope! Only figments, but where there’s figments,” Firecracker’s shadow warped into a cape of spines, “there’s us.”

“So your kin’s returning from Otenere?”

“Firecracker thinks so,” Firecracker yawned. “But enough of this talk! Tea’s done, and Firecracker wants a sip.”

Four new prompts have been added to the Smokesignals collection today, each with a unique puzzle for you to solve.

• A good old-fashioned maze is available in Slippery Fiend
