Plant Protecting!

Sienna frowned as she caught a glance of the snow out the window.

She never enjoyed the change from autumn to winter - it always creeped up on her before she could prepare herself properly for it, and then, it would be too late to fully be ready to handle a winter.

This year, she was going to prepare her gardens to outlast the winter - even though she didn’t own a greenhouse. She was going to figure out some kind of homemade way to keep her plants safe this season.

This started off with her trying to make a handmade tarp to place over her pots of plants, so that she could keep the snow from falling on them. However, this turned out to be tricky - once she’d gotten some cloth material set up for one, and she had begun making the second, she noticed that the snow’s weight was piling up on the makeshift roof - causing it to sag and fall! That just wouldn’t do!

She had to think - if a tarp wouldn’t work, she’d have to build an entire roof over these… would wood be a good material? She didn’t know much about woodworking, so she didn’t want to accidentally build something that would have cracks between it for snow to come through…

Wait— that’s it! If she built a wooden roof above the plants, and then placed the tarp beneath it, that would be the perfect combination! Most of the snow would fall on top of the wood and slip off the sides, but any small portions that slipped through the cracks would be caught by the tarp - while still being so little that the tarp wouldn’t break!

She smiled to herself as she began to take down the original tarp, already concocting plans as to where she’d get the wooden planks from.

Perhaps this winter wouldn’t be so bad after all.
