The winters on Safira Island are at their mid-point, casting its sweeping chill across the island. Nearly all Safirans are affected (excluding those who find residence in the Deep Sea) as they must continue to maintain the weave of the protection spells from the frost and ice. Aqualoxes from the shallows have a particularly difficult time, as they must prevent their homes from freezing over. As the world grows weary, they seek a way to forget about the tiring work, if not for a moment. And thus, the Crystalfall Celebration was born!
Hard-working Safirans huddle into their homes with friends and family, sharing the workload of spell-weaving along with fresh baked goods to warm the heart and soul. The cuisine is created from canned jams, cheeses, and dried meats and berries; all raided from pantries stocked during the previous summer; as well as freshly harvested Rime Flowers and Rootworms. Many dishes are savory or a little tart, but they fill the bellies of the people, making them merry.
The markets, which once closed early due to the cold, are staying open for longer as though it were spring again. Many Safirans take this opportunity to go on extravagant shopping sprees (but only after bundling up tight in dense, waxy wools of course)! But nearing the end of the festival, sales begin to fall again, and the markets enter torpor once more.
The creatures of the island's spirits feel brighter, but their eyelids begin to hang as they all drift back into the lull of winter, patiently waiting for the sweet return of spring, so make the most of the holidays while they last!
