Pumpkin Carving.
When the Sun started to set a brown furred aqualox was walking home with his abandoned quiver that held a sickle. In his mouth held some food he had recently hunted down. His paws patted among the orange grass as he'd eventually reached home.
When Mudfish finally made it home, he smelt some cooking in the house and immediately could tell it was pumpkin seeds being cooked. Mudfish knew now that his brother loved to cook pumpkin seeds. It was their childhood favorite snack. Mudfish would put the food away into a cooling source so that it wouldn't rot. Mudfish came into the kitchen to see uncarved pumpkins ready to have faces while his brother was cooking the seeds in the oven with oven mitts on his three tails and two front paws. His brother's ear flicked before he turned his head with a smile. "Brother! You're home!" Said the Aqualox.
Jellyfish was a light purple Aqualox with a lighter underbelly. He had blue bioluminescence stripes that only glowed in the dark when there's no source of light casted onto him. The complete opposite of Mudfish's brown tones.
"Hello, Jellyfish. Making seeds, I see?" Mudfish replied to his brother, walking over to sit next to him. Jellyfish would nod in reply. "Yep! But! I've been waiting for you to come home so we can carve these pumpkins!" He hummed, smiling before calling out for Opal. A young Aqualox pup that was pastel pinks and blues with soul gems across their back. They ran in and leaped at Mudfish, who caught them with his tail.
"Dad! You're back!!" Said the young pup with a happy smile as they hugged Mudfish's tail. Gaining a smile from the Older Aqualox. "Of course I'm back, just in time for pumpkin carving too, I see?" He'd say with a smile as Opal nodded. "Yeah! It was Obsidian's Idea!! She asked Jellyfish for pumpkins to carve for when you come back so we can carve them together!" Mudfish smiled and chuckled before he'd go over to the tools to get started on Pumpkin Carving.
"Opal, go get your sister. We'll start now before it gets too late." Mudfish said with a chirp. Opal was quick to get their sister, leaving Mudfish and Jellyfish alone.
"Mom would be impressed." Said Jellyfish.
"For what?"
"That you're really good with kids. She always said that you'd be dead before you became a father."
That caused Mudfish to laugh. "Well, I can't blame her. She always knew us best."
"She did, didn't she? I miss that crazy woman. Always spoke in gibberish we didn't get."
"And we had to learn everything about her gibberish so that we could make sense of it."
"Then we started talking in ggibberish language as well"
"Our little Language."
The brothers soon both laughed softly, a smile on both faces. Soon enough the kids came back. And they started the Carving of the pumpkins. Together. Oh how proud would their mother have been before she disappeared many years ago. If only she were still here.
While the Family of four craved the pumpkins. Two bright yellow eyes on a shadowy figure were watching in the distance before it walked back into the shadows and disappeared. The last thing that came from them was a soft voice filling the skies with a song of words that made no sense.
