Remembrance | Meet my Mother
It was always uncomfortable for Aegis to visit graves, he always felt like he was out of place there- or, perhaps too much in place- being a beast of death... but he was here to support someone he cared about- and that was more important to him than any of his sensibilities.
He looked up to Rorqual, who was gently placing down a bundle of flowers on top of the grave. One of the petals started to wilt at an accelerated pace, and Aegis stepped back momentarily. Rorqual didn't seem to notice. "So... who were they to you?" Aegis asked. He probably didn't need to ask, knowing how Rorqual liked to talk, but it was a way of showing that he cared.
"Oh! She was my mother... She was... taken away from me when I was still a pup, got picked off by a large sea beast looking for a meal- it was nature's course but my father was furious as the beast that ended her. He went off to hunt down whatever creature took her away... and he never returned. I would have brought something for him too, but... I'd like to think he's alive, really. He's a strong lox."
Aegis looked away. "Rorqual, I'm... so sorry to hear that." Gently, a paw was placed on Aegis' shoulder, and though he tried to flinch away, Rorqual kept contact with him. "It's alright, they were wonderful people, emotional- yes, but good people. My mother was actually the one who taught me to be kind to everyone no matter what, even if something about them seemed scary or abnormal... so, I'm really grateful for that. That's why I brought you here too, actually."
"Wha-?" Aegis started, but Rorqual stopped his words by pulling him closer. Aegis was worried he might hurt Rorqual, but the large beast seemed to be hugging him with enough force the entire time. Almost as if Rorqual was becoming immune to Aegis' damaging powers the longer they stuck around each other... He couldn't think about that for long, however, as Rorqual began to speak once more.
"My mother always wanted to meet my boyfriend whenever I got one, so of course I had to agree to her wish even if she isn't here anymore." Rorqual smiled, that silly stupid smile that Aegis admittedly found quite cute. That didn't stop his sudden shock, face going red. Boyfriend? When was that even established? Had Rorqual asked him out and Aegis didn't even realize it? Well, he wasn't going to complain, especially not in front of his mother.
Admittedly, Aegis was glad that he got to meet Rorqual's mother, even in some spiritual abstract way such as this. He let a thought linger in his head, as if he was sending the message out to the spiritual realm, hoping Rorqual's mother would be able to hear him.
"I promise I'll take care of him, m'am. You raised a good man, and even though I'm a bit confused right now... I do love him very much."
