Pumpkin Carving | A Cooperative Activity

The jack-o-lantern was a group effort- partially because Zilke was, in most senses of the physical realm, fully blind, but also because Drish had a vision for the pumpkin that couldn't be done with his tiny claws. So they ended up cooperating as they usually did for complex visual activities. Drish would give directions to Zilke, and sometimes even crawl on his arms in order to position them where they needed to be. Sometimes Zilke would have to feel around with his paws, but Drish made sure that they didn't accidentally cut themself or anything like that.

The process was long, partially because of all the tiny details that Drish wanted, making every little centimeter of cuts into the pumpkin something that had to be micromanaged. Zilke went along with it easily, used to the way that Drish gave directions for stuff like this- and after all, if he could lockpick while going by Drish's directions, carving a pumpkin was nothing.

The end result was a landscape carved into the pumpkin, with stars in the sky and various mountains in the distance- broken apart with a river-like shape that had small blades of grass carved next to it on either side. Drish decided that putting a candle in there would be his job, but before he did, he allowed Drish to run his paw over the pumpkin and appreciate the work. Drish smiled lightly as he took in the feeling of the carved pumpkin, knowing that he helped put that together.

Sure, he couldn't see it when Drish added the candle inside of the pumpkin, but he didn't mind- he'd rather not get burned if he tried to touch it again anyways.
